Michael is an international cabaret entertainer, multi-instrumentalist, recording artist, teacher and composer. At the age of 11 he was awarded a Surrey Music Scholarship to study at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, during which time he enjoyed a great deal of competition success including winning the Sally Wainwright Prize for Woodwind, Sevenoaks Young Musician of the Year, Eastbourne Young Soloists Competition (winner, under-18's; 2nd prize, under 25's), BBC Young Musician of the Year (semi-finalist) as well as making his television debut at the age of 13 performing Dave Brubeck's "Take Five" live on BBC's Blue Peter.
Continuing his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Michael founded the Landon Chamber Ensemble and performed in acclaimed concerts at St James' Piccadilly, St Martin-in-the-fields, the Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, the International Festival of Music in Ripatransone, Italy, as well as recital series at the Bluthner Piano Centre, Mayfair and The Cello Factory, Waterloo.
As a jazz player Michael has performed with the Humphrey Littleton Band, the Baron Knights, the Foundations, Nicky Moore's Blues Corporation and is in high demand as a guest artist on the Cunard and P&O Cruise Lines for his swing show. He has also performed in countless musicals in London and across the UK.
He has written two musicals for schools, two ballets for London Fringe companies and several English song cycles continuing the tradition of the early 20th Century British composers, He is also a composer for Youth Music Theatre UK, this summer writing the music for a new dance work with choreographer Jo Meredith and director Greg Eldridge.
Michael has always enjoyed teaching and a number of his private pupils have gone on to read music at Cambridge University, the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music. He is currently the Musical Director for Bexhill 6th Form College in East Sussex and also runs three community choirs in Hastings, Oxted and Tonbridge, arranging all of the music especially for them and developing their performance and vocal technique. This led him to last year co-found the charity Time to Shine Project, which aims to give performance opportunities to vulnerable people within the community.
Michael runs a small teaching practise from his home and is also available for classical masterclasses, musical theatre direction, adjudicating, choir coaching and music workshops. Please use the Contact page for all enquiries.
Michael lives in Tonbridge, Kent, with his partner and beautiful Blue Cross rescue dog Cassie.
